Watercolour painting "Temple of Apollo, Stourhead" is a dramatic watercolour scene of one of the famous buildings in its very picturesque surroundings  of Stourhead Gardens, The Temple of Apollo, or the Temple of the Sun.

The Stourhead gardens, laid out in the 1740's by architects Henry Hoare II and Henry Flitcroft, are an outstanding example of the English landscape style. 

The idea of the garden is known to reflect Claude Lorrain's Coast View of Delos with Aeneas and the passage from Vergil on which it was based, relating Aeneas's account of his experience in the Temple of Apollo at Delos...
